Cincinnati, OH – Amy Campbell, a local fitness competitor, won the title of Ms. Fitness Universe Classic this past weekend on June 19th at the Fitness Universe Pageant held in Miami, Florida.  The Fitness Universe Classic Division was added for the first time last year and Ms. Campbell is the first fitness competitor from Ohio and second woman overall to earn the 1st Place Classic title.

The Classic Division is open exclusively to Fitness competitors who are at least 35 years of age. The over-35 Division has grown in popularity and last year was added to the Universe show. This year was Amy’s first appearance competing at Fitness Universe. Succeeding Amy at this year’s event was 2nd place winner, Amy Gantwerk from Massachusetts, and 3rd Place winner, Junko Hashimoto from Japan. Ms. Campbell also placed 9th in the Ms. Bikini Classic event.
Amy brought to the stage an exciting “sci-fi glam” themed routine incorporating songs from The Matrix, Star Wars, Beastie Boys “Intergalactic” and Rob Zombie “Dragula”. Her fitness costume, a black two-piece outfit adorned with green crystals was custom designed and created by Amy Ardizonne of Suits by Amy.
The Fitness Universe Pageant was introduced in 1989. The Fitness judging criteria is based on three rounds, Fitness, Swimsuit and Interview. The Fitness round is 45% of the overall score judging on execution, creativity, difficulty and appearance. The Swimsuit round is also 45% and includes criteria of Poise, Body Condition, Femininity and Appearance. The Interview round completes the total score with a weight of 10%. The show is televised on ESPN International.
Amy Campbell has three years experience competing in the fitness industry. Amy began training in the fall of 2005 and attended her first fitness camp in February 2006. Amy stepped onto the Ms. Fitness USA stage for the first time in September 2006 where she finished in the middle of the pack, a commendable ranking for her first show. Amy ramped up her training regiment joining Cathy Savage Fitness out of Boston in January 2008. From there her fitness achievements have accelerated. She’s competed in the Kumite Classic in May 2008 where she finished 8th in Fitness and most recently the Fitness Atlantic where she tied for Top Ten in Fitness this past April.
