Pro Cheer Spotlight: AZ Cardinals Cheerleader, Callie

by admin on February 16, 2010

This week’s Pro Cheer Spotlight is on NFL Cheerleader, Callie, a first-year member of the Arizona Cardinals Cheerleaders. Originally from a small farm town in Montana, she started dancing at the age of 3, cheered in high school, danced on her college team at the University of Montana, then made her way to the NFL!

Starting this fall, you can see her dance 6 nights per week in the “Tournament of Kings” cast at one of Las Vegas’ premier stage show venues – the Excalibur!

Name: Callie Claire Yeager
Team(s): College: University of Montana Dance Team (Sugarbears); Arizona Cardinals
Years on squad: 3 years college; 1 year NFL
Occupation/school: Dancer, Nanny, Hotel Operations, Mary Kay Cosmetics Consultant
Degree: Graduated with a B.F.A in Dance Performance & Choreography from University of Montana ‘07

What’s your favorite pro cheer memory? The games!  Getting ready in the locker room with all the girls, our pre game pep talks; and performing in front of the RED SEA!

What do you do with your time outside of NFL cheer? Travel, visit family/friends in Montana, I love the outdoors, fishing, camping, and rodeos.  I enjoy music (country) &  I love going to concerts, movies, the Internet, TV, and just having a good time.

What is your dream job? I am actually living it now.  Being able to say that I can and I am making a living by dancing!  Dancing 6 nights a week is a dream.  So many people asked, “what will you do with a dance degree?”  Being able to enjoy what you do as a job is worth everything.

What accomplishments are you most proud of ? Graduating from college is very exciting for me.  My parents and grandparents did it, it is a great tradition.

What was your prior cheerleading/dance experience? I was a Varsity Cheerleader for 4 years in High School.  3 years on the UM dance team.  I have a degree in Dance & spent the last year as an Arizona Cardinals Cheerleader.

besides dancing professionally, how else do you remain involved in cheerleading/dance? I help coach and choreograph as a volunteer for the Montana All Star Shriner’s Cheerleaders each year.  It is an annual All Star Football game; East vs. West teams from every town in Montana.  The game is to help support the Children in the Shriner’s Hospitals.

What advice would you give to those auditioning for pro cheer & dance teams next season? SMILE!  Never give up!  Your year will come, if its not this year on that particular team, it may be your year next time for a different team.  Make the judges want to look and watch you.
